Flexibility

One aspect that is not often sufficiently considered is the low modulus of elasticity of titanium alloys (10.3 Gpa compared with 220 Gpa of steel). This parameter measures the deformation capacity of a body in an elastic field caused by any type of stress.

The greater elasticity of titanium is therefore a factor that must not be neglected in the design process. This property has proved to be fundamental for the realisation of prostheses, such as ankle joints, where it is combined with the excellent biocompatibility of this metal. Other optimal applications are the realisation of springs, tennis rackets and golf clubs.
